April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at many Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold medal over the coming days. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic gold medal. As she is 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. However, she's convinced that top prizes are within reach. If we do our top or do well, I believe we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here with her father, mother and younger sister. She went on to compete in many sports at Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and track, in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits as a prep athlete. She stood out however in this sport. As per her biography in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a setter (outside blocker). Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the National Player of 1999. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her for volleyball. Ross has been playing with Klineman since 2017. However, Ross's beach game was established well before this. The American has been a major winner in competitions with different players. The other is an icon in the world of volleyball. She teamed up together with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's personal trainer. Together together with Kessy Ross, she won the World Championship in 2009, while racing in the international circuit. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympics. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends that was the winners of the 2012 Olympics in London, took them out to win the gold. It was fate that had them. Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. Both went on to win the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. Ross was a college player with the Trojans of USC prior to her pro career. She was a player in high school, and even before hitting the beach professionally. Her time in the Trojans' ranks was one to remember. The year 2000 was her freshman year. saw her earn the Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman's of Award and also be named an All-American. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans to make it to their first Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year however she was able to return in the ranks of an All-American. Over her final two years as a player, she led the Trojans to the summit netting successive national titles. She was a great player on the court, and was awarded the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross studied at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross did not see her daughter achieve the heights of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. She still holds her mother close to her heart. Margie, on the beach and in daily life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
